Do you Rock? No, this isn't a question about your musical taste or you assessment of how great you are. This is a question basically posed by the apostle Peter in Acts 4. He challenges the Sanhedrin (The elite religious leadership in jerusalem). They were very angry with Peter and others for speaking about Jesus and disrupting their control and establishment. His challenge is this..."the stone you builders rejected has become the cornerstone" This may sound harmless to you but the weight...

Last night I spoke on this idea of staying on course spiritually. It seems the more i read of the early Church in Acts the more i find a brand of Christianity that I am unfamiliar with. Its as if they were decidedly "on course" with their faith and the results were truly amazing. Staying on course is really a critical issue for every Christ- follower. I do not believe we are left alone to figure out this journey. The Holy Spirit seems to play the role of navigator...

There is a problem I have. Maybe you can relate? I am a true believer in Christ. However, I catch myself at times seeking more to be unnoticed rather than noticed as a Christian. I have convinced myself that I can steal a few moments for myself and I deserve some time off - after all I do this full-time. Certainly God will understand if I need some "down-time" as a Christian. I'm not talking about going on a sin binge. I'm simply talking about allowing myself the freedom to not be so...

This article so inspired me I had to pass this along. Special thanks to Greg Thompson for taking time to write this. I hope this makes sense. AS All I ever really needed to know, I learned from Johnny Stallings. You can go to the finest schools and get any advanced degree they offer. Or you can read all of the business and self-improvement books you want. But for a Ph. D in true wisdom, take a look at the life of Johnny Stallings. You may have never heard of Johnny. He had Down...

What is happening to our country? It seems everywhere I go I find another frustrating example of someone cutting a corner, taking a short cut, or choosing the easy way. Just the other day I was stuck in an airport for hours because the airline couldn't fill the plane like they had hoped so they cancelled my flight (to save their bottom line) forcing me to rework my plans and be rerouted taking hours to get home. What happened to customer service? What happened to doing what you said you...

“ Opportunity is missed by most people because it is dressed in overalls and looks like work. " - Thomas Edison When I read this quote I was immediately inspired to write. I constantly meet people who seem to be waiting for life to happen for them. I was fortunate enough to be raised by parents that instilled in me a strong work ethic. Work, and I mean hard work wasn't an option for me - it was simply part of growing up a Savage. I regret to see so many people today so "work...

What is the secret to confident living. I just came from lunch with a guy who is on a quest to answer this question. Like so many of us we recognize that confidence is the greater issue when it comes to success. Our skill and know-how though important don't seem to be the primary issue. What does it look like to truly live in confidence and execute the task at hand without doubt, fear or insecurity? My observation is that confidence has a few key components... 1. Realism . We...

What God says about the money we keep... Topic: Crazy Gas Prices... $4+ a gallon. Ouch. Make that 2 ouches - we have 2 cars. I had a thought. My agenda is to provoke more responsible behavior ini people who claim to trust God and live for Him. After all He has entrusted to us with 90% of our income. It is incumbent for us to make adjustments in our financial behaviors in order to remain faithful servants. The 90% idea of the day...in response to crazy gas prices... Stop...

Line Leaders..."True leaders lead to serve not lead to be served." Are you a "line leader"? We all remember lining up in grade school each of us hoping we could be the "line leader" to make the journey to the lunchroom or library. We all wanted to be first; to be recognized as important; the one others had to follow. This is the attractive part of leadership. It's cute when you are 4. The sad part is many people pursue ministry leadership to secure a permanent position as the "line...

The other day my son comes in to tell me what he learned at school. They were learning about fire safety and all that. Well, he proceeded to show me the way to safety..."Stop, Drop & Roll". Back to fire safety in a minute. Over the last few weeks I have been in a few different settings where I've been an observer to conflict. I get that privilege a lot in ministry. In each case I have noticed something that got me thinking about my own approach to conflict...maybe this will help you...

“Broken isthe hand that will not reach for help” -Frank This is a greatquote. Haven’t we all beenthere? Those times in life wherewe find ourselves in desperate need yet we are gripped with the fear that, “ifpeople only knew…” It’s funny how we mask our struggles. I’ve yet to meet anyone without astruggle of some kind yet we try as hard and creatively as we can to cover themup and pretend things are great. What are we afraid of? Certainly we want to be liked and...

I like BIG “buts” and I cannot lie…
The last two weeks at the loop we have been working through a new series called, FreeRide, the scandalous story of Amazing Grace. In this series we are looking at the fundamental truths of Grace.
Check out Ephesians 2:4-5
“But because of his great love for us, God, who is rich in mercy, made us alive with Christ even when we were dead in transgressions—it is by grace you have been saved”
Look at that first word, “but”. What a...

Saturday I ran the 15th annual Bunny Run 5K for Special Kids & Families. Let me be very clear - I do not like to run. I do this race every year because it's a great way to support the organization that has helped my son, Cooper. This year through family and our friends at The Loop we were able to win the largest team award. Today, I sit here sore from the run - its strange that running 3 miles can make walking painful!
During my run I was about to hit the...

Nothing major tonight. I'm finally slowing down as the kids are in bed...or at least on the way. I spent the day catching up on my list of stuff to get done at home. I finally put up the slide for Drew, gathered branches all over my yard from the recent storms, I cleaned up my garage, went for a run (ugh!), later went on a walk with the family, played a bunch with the boys and I'm thoroughly beat! As I reflect on the day I am reminded at how good it feels to do what I'd been neglecting. I...
