2 Peter 1:1-8
1 Siimon Peter, a servant and apostle of Jesus Christ, To those who through the righteousness of our God and Savior Jesus Christ have received a faith as precious as ours: 2 Grace and peace be yours in abundance through the knowledge of God and of Jesus our Lord. 3 His divine power has given us everything we need for life and godliness through our knowledge of him who called us by his own glory and goodness. 4 Through these he has given us his very great and precious promises, so that through them you may participate in the divine nature and escape the corruption in the world caused by evil desires. 5 For this very reason, make every effort to add to your faith goodness; and to goodness, knowledge; 6and to knowledge, self-control; and to self-control, perseverance; and to perseverance, godliness; 7 and to godliness, brotherly kindness; and to brotherly kindness, love. 8 For if you possess these qualities in increasing measure, they will keep you from being ineffective and unproductive in your knowledge of our Lord Jesus Christ.
At this month's session at Republic Coffee, the overarching message was that we need to know God in increasing measure.
All too often, we want to rest in our faith, knowledge, etc. and not grow in our knowledge and faith in who God is. Peter gives us some great encouragement at the beginning of 2 Peter.
- We see that we have a faith as precious as his (verse 1), which should energize us towards the same deep relationship with Christ that Peter had.
- We see that God has given us everything we need for life and godliness (verse 3). So, we are not lacking anything that we would need in order to pursue Him more.
- Peter encourages us to make every effort. In order to know God more, we must make a concentrated effort.
- We see that if we possess the knowledge of God in increasing measure, we will be effective and productive for Jesus in our lives. In increasing measure.
As a result, we hope to know God more tomorrow than we do today!
